Startups naming a product or company

  • A name you are about to launch in the United States
  • A name already in use that was never filed

Founders based outside the US

  • The USPTO requires owners based outside the United States to file through a US licensed attorney
  • Your attorney at the firm signs the application

One price per class, quoted before work starts.

$500service fee, first class

$200 for each additional class. USPTO base fee $350 per class, effective 18 January 2025.

Nothing is paid up front. The service fee and the USPTO base fee are charged together once your attorney has confirmed the scope and you accept it with the engagement terms, as the work starts. The USPTO base fee is collected with the service fee when you accept, and the firm pays it to the USPTO at filing. If the application is not filed, that fee is refunded.

USPTO surcharges for free text goods and services or missing information are extra and are quoted only if they apply.

Filing is not registration.

Filing starts the USPTO review. Registration comes only if the examiner approves the mark, usually many months later, and is never guaranteed.A registered attorney at the firm reviews every mark, decides whether filing makes sense and signs the application. Tao AI helps collect the facts; it does not approve or file anything.

Trademark questions.

How much does it cost to file a trademark with Tao IP?

$500 for the first class and $200 for each additional class, plus the USPTO base fee of $350 per class, so one class is $850 in total. Nothing is paid up front: both are charged together once your attorney has confirmed the scope and you accept the quote.

How many classes do we need?

One for each kind of goods or services you sell or plan to sell under the mark. Your attorney confirms the classes before the quote.

What if the USPTO raises an objection?

Routine procedural corrections are included. Responses to substantive refusals, oppositions and other disputes are quoted separately, in writing, before any work starts.
