The attorney behind hundreds of AI patents, and a founder whose patent he filed.
Tao IP is two things working as one: legal work by Michael Carey at Chau IP Law, a New York patent firm, and a technology company that builds the platform around it.

Michael Carey
Michael prepares and prosecutes utility patents in artificial intelligence, software, blockchain, communications and semiconductors. He has prosecuted hundreds of AI patent applications, including more than 250 complex AI matters in the past two years for Fortune 50 companies building at the AI frontier, with a 90% allowance rate on corporate AI matters. He drafts AI claims in three layers, application, architecture and training, so they survive Section 101 and hold up against competitors.
He is a partner at F. Chau & Associates, the New York intellectual property firm founded in 1998 and recognized by Intellectual Asset Management and Ocean Tomo as the No. 1 New York law firm for securing the highest quality and most competitive consumer electronics patent portfolios. The firm has obtained thousands of US patents for clients including Samsung, Qualcomm, IBM, Adobe, Salesforce and Viasat, as well as universities, emerging companies and individual founders. The firm keeps its own allowance data by art unit and examiner, built over decades of prosecution, and that data shapes how Tao IP drafts and where it files.
Michael also builds the technology behind the practice. He founded FENIX.AI, the drafting and prosecution engine that powers Tao IP, and holds his own patents on automated patent preparation.
Before law, Michael was a Major in the United States Air Force: a C130 pilot with multiple combat deployments, Chief of Command Post, and a Judge Advocate.
Michael filed Lang’s first patent, the MuTag AI patent. Apple bought it. That is how the two met, and why Lang trusts him with everyone else’s.
Michael makes every legal decision: whether to file, how to claim, what to say to the examiner. He reviews and signs every filing. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
Lang Mei
Lang has built and sold across consumer hardware, AI and crypto. He founded Informu and built MuTag, an AI powered tracker whose core patent Apple acquired. He grew AirDAO, a layer 1 network, from a small community into one of the larger projects in its category by market cap. Today he runs MSL Group, the studio behind an MCP based connection platform and the technology company behind Tao IP: the product, the platform, the MCP and the founder experience, so Michael can spend his time on the legal work.
Lang has been the client three times over. He knows what it is like to sit across from a patent attorney with a codebase and a deadline, which is why the free check exists and why every price is fixed before work starts.
Lang is not a lawyer. He never gives legal advice and never directs legal judgment. Every legal question goes to Michael Carey at Chau IP Law, the attorney of record.

How the two sides fit together.
This structure follows New York Rule 5.4 and 37 CFR 11.504. A New York ethics lawyer reviews the arrangement before the first client is signed. [CONFIRM]
